Wine and Liquor Chain Opens in Milford

The store is located where the new ShopRite will be constructed.

A new wine and liquor store has opened at the site of the former Showcase Cinemas in Milford.

According to the Milford Mirror, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place Wednesday at Total Wine & More, and invited guests and state and local officials were treated to samples of wine, beer and other beverages.

The establishment is located at 230 Cherry St., which is where the new ShopRite will be built.

Total Wine & More was founded in 1991 in Delaware. By the end of 2015, the company will have 130 superstores in 18 states, the Milford Mirror reported.

Co-founder David Trone told the New Haven Register that the store works on the premise of “low prices and high volume.”

His brother Robert Trone is the other founder of Total Wine & More.

David Trone said that Connecticut’s regulations prohibit selling alcoholic beverages below cost. In spite of that, he said the chain’s locations sell two to three times more than other local stores, the Register reported.
