Young Girl Jumps Off Bridge Onto I-95 -- But Lives

Police say she landed on the breakdown lane and the grassy area next to it, foiling the suspected suicide attempt.

The girl is an 18-year-old from Milford, police say.

"She was sitting on the edge and pushed herself off," Milford police spokesman Jeffrey Nielsen said.

It was unclear why the girl attempted to take her life.

She was being treated for non life-threatening injuries to her feet and ankles, Nielsen said. She was also being evaluated, he said.

A young girl jumped off the High Street bridge onto I-95 this morning, but managed to survive, police said.

The girl, who has not been identified and whose age is unknown, jumped off the span about 6:50 a.m. and landed on the breakdown lane and the adjacent grassy area along the northbound lanes of the highway, according to police.

The girl was injured, but her condition was unknown. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment after the suspected suicide attempt.
