3-Alarm Fire Destroys Local Church and Preschool

Crews from Monroe, Stepney and Trumbull battled the blaze while Newtown provided mutual aid.

Firefighters in Trumbull, Monroe, Stepney worked to put out a fire at Blessed Assurance Prayer Community Church and Blessed Lambs Preschool on White Plains Road on Sunday.

The fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. and crews got the fire under control around 6:18 p.m., according to Trumbull Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 Inc.

The church has about 30 to 50 parishioners and is also home to Blessed Lambs Preschool as well as the home of the pastor, his wife and another church member, according to NBC Connecticut News.

The fire is under investigation by the Trumbull Fire Marshals office. Early indicators point to the fire starting outside the rear of the structure.

No one was in the building when the fire started and there were no injuries.

Monroe Fire sent two units to the scene while Shelton and Newtown provided station coverage.
