3 Monroe Businesses Sold Tobacco To Underage Customers: Police
Newtown police worked with state inspectors to stage unannounced compliance checks at 15 local businesses. Three failed the test.
MONROE, CT — Employees at three Monroe businesses were cited following investigations by state and local police into the sale of tobacco products to underage buyers.
Monroe police worked with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to stage unannounced compliance checks at 15 local establishments. The crackdown occurred on Oct. 13.
State law requires retailers to inspect the photo ID of anyone who looks under the age of 30 before selling them tobacco, vape or other related products.

The following businesses were found to be non-compliant and issued a first-time infraction and fined $300, according to a news release from the Monroe Police Department:
- FM One Stop, 447 Monroe Turnpike.
- Chestnut Market/Shell, 133 Main Street
- Stop and Go Food Mart, 612 Main Street
