MONROE, CT — Monroe’s annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony are scheduled for Sunday afternoon as the community gathers to honor military members who died in service to the country.
The parade is set to begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at the corner of Elm Street and Route 111. Participants will travel north along Monroe Turnpike to the Town Green, where a memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony will follow.
Town officials said there is no rain date planned for the event. If weather forces cancellation, a ceremony honoring veterans will instead be held at 2 p.m. inside Town Council Chambers.
Police said roads along the parade route will close beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Monroe Turnpike between the Town Green and the Monroe Turnpike/Elm Street intersection will be closed to traffic during the event, along with nearby side streets and shopping plaza entrances connected to the route.
