Goat Found Roaming Near Monroe Park; Animal Control Seeks Owner

MONROE, CT — Monroe Animal Control is looking for the owner of a billy goat found roaming near Webb Mountain Park this week.

The senior Lamancha-type goat was picked up Monday and is being placed on a standard stray hold while officials search for its owner.

The goat was found roaming in the area of Webb Mountain Park.

Animal Control joked that, despite the goat's talents, it won't be replacing the town's police K-9 or serving as a makeshift lawn mower.

Officials also shared some facts about the breed, noting that Lamancha goats are a dairy breed descended from Spanish-bred animals. They are known for their unusually small ears due to a genetic mutation and, contrary to a common misconception, are not deaf.
