House Fire, Lightning Strikes Reported During Storm In Monroe

Fire crews responded to a series of incidents as storms moved through the area.

MONROE, CT — A house fire, electrical problems and reports of lightning strikes kept Monroe's volunteer fire departments busy as storms moved through town Friday evening, according to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department.

About 35 volunteer firefighters from the Monroe, Stepney and Stevenson fire departments responded to multiple consecutive calls over a roughly three-hour period, officials said.

Among the incidents was a house fire in the Stepney section of town, which firefighters quickly contained.

Firefighters also removed a dog from the home. The dog was not injured, according to the department.

Crews responded to multiple homes for electrical issues and lightning strikes, along with reports of arcing power lines.

No injuries had been reported as of the fire department's Friday evening update.

The incidents came as storms prompted numerous emergency calls across the area Friday night.
