2 Monroe Residents Charged After Young Children Left Home Alone Overnight

The child's mother and her boyfriend are accused of leaving two young children home alone overnight while they traveled out of state.

MONROE, CT — Two Monroe residents are facing charges after two young children were reportedly left home alone overnight while the adults traveled out of state.

A 10-year-old boy was found walking around his neighborhood around 3 a.m., knocking on doors and telling neighbors he could not find his parents. Neighbors contacted police, who went to the home and found the boy's 5-year-old brother asleep inside, according to the Monroe Sun.

Police contacted the children's mother, who told officers she and her boyfriend had traveled to New York, according to The Monroe Sun. The Connecticut Department of Children and Families was notified.

Monroe police confirmed Zong Zou, 34, and Shi Lin, 34, turned themselves in on warrants Sept. 29. Both were charged with two counts of risk of injury to a child.

Zou's bond was set at $25,000, while Lin's was set at $2,500, according to the Monroe Police Department. Both were scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court Sept. 30.
