4. 10-Year-Old Wanders Neighborhood at 3 AM Looking for Parents Who Went to New York (newsbreak.com) — Monroe residents may have seen police activity after a 10-year-old was found knocking on doors around 3 a.m., unable to locate his parents, who had allegedly gone to New York and left him and a younger sibling alone. Authorities discovered a 5-year-old inside the home, notified state child welfare officials, and later arrested both parents, who turned themselves in and now face potential legal consequences. The case highlights serious concerns about child safety and supervision in town.
5. Law softball hires Leigh Barone as coach after her historic 10-year run at Masuk (ctpost.com) — Monroe students may recognize their Jockey Hollow Middle School Spanish teacher, Leigh Barone, who has just been named head softball coach at Law after a record-setting decade at Masuk. Barone led Masuk to multiple state and conference titles, coached numerous future college players, and earned several statewide coaching honors. Her new role keeps a prominent Monroe educator in the Connecticut softball spotlight.
