Apartments, Restaurant, Retail Space Proposed For Monroe Property

Plans for the property call for a three-story, mixed-use building with commercial space.

MONROE, CT — A proposed mixed-use development featuring apartments, restaurant space and commercial uses could be coming to a Main Street property in Monroe.

Plans submitted to the town for 715 Main St. call for a three-story building with restaurant and retail/commercial space on the first floor and 20 one-bedroom apartments on the upper levels.

Project documents also show parking, landscaping and site improvements proposed for the Route 25 property.

The proposal recently received a favorable recommendation from Monroe’s Architectural Review Board during a May 12 meeting.

During the meeting, architect Hans Schuurmans of HJS Projects and Easton resident Stephen Shapiro, representing 715 Main Street LLC, presented exterior façade plans and building renderings to board members.

Architectural Review Board members said the project was “in good architectural character” but requested additional details before final approval, including finalized awning colors, façade material samples and plans showing how rooftop mechanical equipment would be screened from road view.

The Architectural Review Board ultimately voted unanimously to issue a favorable report to the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The Planning and Zoning Commission is expected to make a final decision on the proposal May 21.
