Officials recommend securing trash cans with tight-fitting lids, storing garbage indoors until pickup day, and removing outdoor food sources such as pet food and bird seed.
Those living in areas with frequent bear activity may also consider using bear-resistant containers, according to officials.
Animal control officials said keeping trash areas clean and free of food residue can also help reduce the likelihood of attracting bears.
