Blazin’ Pumpkins Replaces Spirits of Stepney Graveside Tour

The Save Our Stepney Task Force states that the cemetery tour will return next year.

MONROE, CT — The Save Our Stepney Task Force (SOS), will host the first Blazin’ Pumpkins Illumination on Friday, October 26 and Sunday, October 28, from at 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Stepney Green. Attendees will be treated to hot cider, apples, and donuts with small pumpkins available for children to decorate and take home. This event will replace the Spirits of Stepney Graveside Lantern Cemetery tour in the Birdsey’s Plain/Stepney Cemetery for 2018.

Jack-o'-lanterns of all sizes and expressions will create a ring of illumination around the gazebo on the Stepney Green, located at the intersection of Routes 25 and 59 in Monroe. The light show will begin on Saturday, October 20 and be extinguished after Halloween. There will be opportunities to take pictures with the “Great Pumpkin.” SOS members will build the core illumination and members of the community are invited to join in by bring a carved pumpkin. Carved pumpkins may be dropped off at 51 Hattertown Road or to the Green on the event dates. The Task Force will illuminate the pumpkins.

The event is free with parking provided behind the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. The Save Our Stepney Task Force states that the cemetery tour will return next year.
