Brookfield Man Facing DUI After Head-On Crash in Monroe

Police say oncoming traffic had to maneuver to avoid crashing with the vehicle.

A Brookfield man is facing a DUI charge after police say he was involved in a head-on crash in Monroe on Thursday.

According to police, James Giess, 22 was traveling east on Route 34, where he crossed over the center line several times causing oncoming traffic to take evasive maneuvers to avoid a head-on crash, before driving his car into the opposite lane and crashed head-on with another vehicle.

Officers detected a smell of an alcoholic beverage on Giess’s breath and he failed standardized field sobriety tests, police said. After being evaluated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and refusing medical care, Giess was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and failure to drive in a proper lane.
