Community to Honor 9/11 Victims Thursday at Flag Trees Site Memorial

Six maple trees with the American flag painted on them on Route 302 in Newtown serve as a somber reminder of the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

Mr. Howard Lasher invites the public to his home, 68 Dodgingtown Road in Newtown, to remember the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Lasher’s home is the site of the American Flag Memorial on Route 302 in the Dodgingtown section of town. He has hosted a memorial every year since Sept. 11, 2001 to honor the victims of the 9/11 tragedy and would like to offer the site at the Flag Memorial to all within the community or beyond.

The American Flag Tree Memorial has offered a place of mourning for many. In September of 2001 Mr. Lasher commissioned artist David Merrill to paint a tribute to his 10 dear friends that he lost that day.

Mr. Lasher said, “The American Flag Memorial is about the people who tragically lost their lives on 9/11 and also for all those men and women who have given their lives in defense of our great nation. Whether it is Iraq, Afghanistan and all the wars, The American Flag Memorial represents what they died for.”
