Congrats to Monroe's Outstanding Citizen for 2015

Deb Heim is Monroe’s Outstanding Citizen for 2015.
Heim is a member of the Town Council, a volunteer with an extensive list of agencies and a descendant of one of the earliest families to settle the area.

The award will be presented at the May 26 meeting of the Town Council where Heim has served as vice-chairman and chairman of the committees administering finance, education, health and public safety.
Steve Vavrek, Monroe’s first selectman whose office administers the award, said in a statement that Heim “has set an example for all of us, contributing across a remarkably broad spectrum of activities that have supported our community’s growth and values.”

Heim serves as the treasurer of the Monroe Historical Society, Monroe Land Trust and Tree Conservancy, Monroe women’s Club, Stepney Volunteer Fire Department and was the past treasurer of the Monroe Republican town committee, Stepney Ladies Auxiliary, Stepney Parent/Teachers Organization and the Northeast Regional Tax collectors Association. She is also associated in various capacities with the Community Emergency Response Team, Monroe Food Pantry, Monroe/Trumbull Relay for Life and the list goes on and on.
Outside of her volunteer commitments, Heim has served as tax collector of Stratford for 13 years and fulfilled the same function in Monroe for nine years before that. She is married to Ken Heim, with whom she has four children and four grandchildren. She is as descendant of the Burr family whose roots go back to 1762 when Benjamin, James and Noah Burr were listed as the heads of households in New Stratford Parish which became Monroe in 1823.
Heim’s designation follows the selection of Diane Mellen in 2014.
