Criminal Charges Possible After Monroe Boy Accidentally Shot By His Father

The State's Attorney's office will review the case to see if any charges will be brought against the father.

The State’s Attorney’s office will review the facts and circumstances of the accidental shooting involving an 11-year-old boy that occurred Sunday for possible criminal charges.

An 11-year-old boy was shot in the cheek during the accidental shooting.

The pistol involved in the accident will be submitted to the State of Connecticut Forensics Laboratory to determine if the pistol malfunctioned, police said.

Police received a 911 call about the incident that occurred on a Partridge Drive residence at 3:35 p.m. on Sunday.

According to police, the male caller reported that while he was placing a 9mm semi-automatic pistol in a gun safe, the pistol accidentally discharged. The bullet passed through a wall and struck his 11-year-old son who was in the adjacent family room. The young boy was struck in the face and the bullet passed through both cheeks.

The boy was transported by ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital and later transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Monroe Police Department’s Detective Bureau is investigating this incident.

The Monroe police department remind individuals that while handling a firearm, they should always treat it as if it was loaded and be mindful of where the barrel is pointed.
