Dental Associates' 'Candy Buy Back' Ensures Diabetic Kids Have a Happy Halloween Too

Dental Associates is hosting their 12th annual candy buy back program where kids can trade their stash for cash.

Celebrating Halloween with a child who has diabetes can be miserable. Just ask Newtown mom Danielle Silk.

Danielle’s son Andrew was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes less than 1 month after his 4th birthday. Like many parents struggling with the a new, life-changing diagnosis, Type 1 Diabetes can be overwhelming at first. Suddenly the parent must learn how to give injections, count carbohydrates and monitor blood sugar.

Not only that, but they can’t have any of the Halloween candy!

Silk recently posted this on her Facebook page:

“Andrew was talking about dressing up for Halloween this year and I told him that I don’t think we are going to go out this year because he can’t have the candy; even though he barely ever had candy before his diagnosis with Diabetes. He proceeds to tell me, “I know. It’s okay mommy. You can have my candy because I know you like candy.” Hopefully we stumble across people with chips, goldfish, pretzels, etc. again this year. #StupidDiabetes.”
