Diabetic Alert Dog Campaign/Holiday Vendor Fair 12/9/17

Diabetic Alert Dog (SDWR) Campaign and Holiday Vendor Fair

Get your Holiday shopping done and help a local, Monroe teenager get a life-saving Diabetic Alert Dog. Join us at a Holiday Vendor Fair on Saturday, 12/9/17; 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Monroe (515 Cutlers Farm Road). Some of the amazing local vendors include: LuLa Roe, Stella & Dot, Tupperware, Chloe & Isabel, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Jamberry Nails, Rodan & Fields and many more.

Kimberly Collis is a 16 year old Junior who attends Masuk High School in Monroe. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 27 months old. Kimberly and her family are raising money to get a Diabetic Alert Dog who is trained to alert diabetic owners in advance of low (hypoglycemia) or high (hyperglycemia) blood sugar events before it becomes an emergency. This would allow her to better track her blood sugar changes and prepare for insulin. The Alert Dog reacts to scent changes produced by a diabetic’s body. The dogs are able to alert in many ways including to paw, jump, nose or many other motions when they sense a high or low.

So far Kimberly and her family has raised 38% of the $25,000 needed. A Service Dog by Warren Retrievers (SDWR) will provide hope, independence, peace of mind and improved quality of life to Kimberly and our family.
