Weekly Chess for K-12 at Library

Players in grades K-12 are welcome to join the library's chess club for kids that meets 10 a.m.-noon every Saturday in the children's craft room. Jeff Lawrence, a nationally and internationally ranked chess player with over 30 years tournament experience, will teach chess basics and strategies to club participants.

Parents of children under 10 must remain in the children's room during the program.

There will be chess tournaments for chess club participants once or twice a year. Regular Chess Club is sponsored by the library's Friends group.

Also, those who think they are a more serious player and want to be involved on a competitive level may join the library's chess team. There is a $25.00 membership fee for the chess team to cover materials and supplies. Team membership allows participants to compete in meets against other libraries and learn more advanced techniques.

For more information contact Lawrence at  jalcao@yahoo.com.

No registration is required. There will be no chess club or chess team Nov. 27.
