Failed Shoplifter Tried to Boost Beer: Cops

The suspect tried to steal six 30-packs of brew from the Monroe Big Y supermarket.

A 45-year-old Waterbury man tried and failed last week to steal six 30-packs of beer from the Big Y supermarket in Monroe, according to police.

Arrested on Jan. 28 was Christopher Reardon, who was charged with third-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny and breach of peace.

Police said Reardon tried to leave the store with the beer without paying, but was spotted by a Loss Prevention Officer. Reardon shoved the store employee out of the way and fled the scene by car, but not before the vehicle was photographed.
