Fast Moving Brush Fire in Monroe Spreads to Boats, Trailers and Woods

Stevenson, Monroe and Stepney volunteer firefighters were called to a Webb Circle residence for a fast moving brush fire on Thursday around 1:30 p.m.

According to Fire Marshal Bill Davin, the resident had been burning a small pile of sticks when the fire quickly escalated, spreading to two boats and trailers, a box truck, and a large section of woods.

Smoke could be seen from several miles away.

Because the area has no fire hydrants, all three tanker trucks from Stevenson and Monroe were on scene along with two other Monroe fire trucks, as well as a tanker and a brush truck from the White Hills Fire Department in Shelton, the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department said.

Firefighters were able to stop the fire fairly quickly but remained on scene for about an hour to soak down the area. Firefighters used foam to ultimately extinguish the boats.

No injuries were reported during the fire.

The fire department reminds residents that burn permits are required through the Monroe Fire Marshal’s Office. Any burning must be done away from wooded areas and all precautions described on the burn permit must be followed.
