Firefighters Rescue Deer on Frozen Lake in Monroe

MONROE, CT — Firefighters rescued a deer that had fallen down upon a frozen lake on Sunday.

The Monroe Police Department received a call Sunday morning concerning a deer down on the ice of Lake Zoar at the rear of Waterview. The PD contacted Stevenson Volunteer Fire Company, who responded with specialized gear designed for ice and water rescue.

The first responders found the deer approximately 500 feet out, about halfway across the frozen lake. One firefighter hooked a tether and pulled his way out, once he was close the deer freed itself and ran off the lake and up into the treeline. Officials from SVFC called the experience a "great training opportunity" on their Facebook page.
