Flagpole Photographers Camera Club April Events

Newtown Camera Club offers Still Life program & hosts photography walkabout of Newtown & Sandy Hook

Flagpole Photographers Camera Club invites you to join them at their April events which include a still life photography presentation and a hands-on workshop photographing Newtown with club members as your guides.

Club member Charlie Batchelder has established himself has a terrific “Still Life” photographer. With still life, the photographer has control over all aspects of the inanimate objects, the lighting, and the camera settings. Come hear about the lessons Charlie has learned through his experiences and passion for this type of photography. After the presentation, there will be opportunities to practice these techniques. This will be held Thursday, April 13th at 7:30pm at the Newtown Senior Center at 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. Photo above courtesy of Charles Batchelder.

On Saturday, April 22, the club will present their ‘Newtown Photography Workshop’. This hands-on workshop is a great way to boost your photography skills while capturing photos of historic Newtown and Sandy Hook. Work side-by-side with award winning photographers for the entire session. The morning will start with an outdoor session in Newtown, and then move a few miles to an outdoor session in Sandy Hook. After lunch, we will move indoors and focus on digital darkroom skills enhancing this morning’s photos for printing and social media. This will be held on April 22nd beginning at 8:45am at The Pleasance at 1 Main St in Newtown. The event is free for members and $20 for non-members. Bonus – this $20 includes membership for the rest of current season, which ends August 31, 2017. Complete details on this event can be found in the Events page on the club website at http://www.flagpolephotographers.com/events/.

The assigned subject for April’s competition is “Still Life”. Put into practice what you learned at Charlie Batchelder’s program night this month if you like. While still life is typically an arrangement of inanimate common objects, feel free to explore your own creativity with what you select as your subject. This will be held on Thursday, April 27th at 7:15pm at Newtown Senior Center at 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook.

Flagpole members compete in a different assignment each month, as well as in three additional categories: Open Digital, Open Color, and Open Monochrome. While the competition is only open to members, the public is invited to listen to critiques and learn about photography.

There is no charge to attend Flagpole Photographers Camera Club competitions. Flagpole Photographers is a local non-profit group that enables members to share their images and expertise, to learn and grow in their photography, and to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow photographers who come from diverse backgrounds, with photographic skills ranging from beginning novices to professionals.

New members are always welcome to join the club and may enter their work in monthly club competitions, participate in workshops, take field trips, get involved in community programs, and take part in annual exhibits. Students may join at no charge.
