Helen Mary Michel, age 87 of Monroe, passed peacefully on December 22, 2015. Helen was born November 21, 1928 in Monroe, CT, daughter of the late Carl and Magdalena (Machuacz) Blaskewicz. Her beloved husband of 62 years, John (Jack) Michel, Jr., predeceased her.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert J. Michel, and his wife Lisa, of Monroe; Patricia M. Terricciano, and her husband Paul, of Roswell, GA; Ronald R. Michel, Sr. of Raleigh, NC; and Kathleen M. Samuelman of Monroe. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ashley J. Michel, Ronald R. Michel, Jr., Michael J. Samuelman and Jake R. Samuelman, and several nieces and nephews. Helen was a life-long resident of Monroe and worked the family farm alongside her nine brothers and sisters.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Bennard, Edward and Carl Blaskewicz; and by five sisters, Louise Slushinski, Genevieve Staffy, Blanche Pankiewicz, Virginia Dralus, and Sophie Czaplicki. She attended Bassick High School and following employment at Lindstrom, Bullards, and Remington Arms of Bridgeport, Helen was a dedicated, loving mother and devoted her time raising her children.
Helen loved to work in her large garden and can her own vegetables. Some of her favorite early pastimes included family camping trips, fishing and clamming in Long Island Sound. She enjoyed hosting large gatherings and spending time with family and friends, and was always there to help her children and grandchildren in any way. She touched many and will be deeply missed.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015 from 5-8 PM in the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at the funeral home, with burial to follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Stratford. The family would like to thank the St. Vincent’s Hospital Critical and Progressive Care Unit staff for their exceptional care and compassion.
