'Iconic' Monroe Restaurant Listed For Sale After 52 Years, Owners Say It Will Stay Open

MONROE, CT — The owners of The Smithy restaurant said this week they have put the Main Street restaurant and property up for sale, while pledging to continue operating as usual.
In a message shared with customers on social media, the owners said the restaurant will “continue to operate as usual and remain open” as they seek a buyer.
They said they are “committed to finding someone to be the next steward of this iconic property,” noting that the restaurant has been in continuous operation for 52 years.

The owners reflected on what they described as a challenging stretch in recent years, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Having gotten through COVID, as well as the tragic losses of our dear Michele and her son Anthony, we have certainly seen our fair share of challenges over the past 6 years,” they wrote.

They credited customers and staff for the restaurant’s longevity.
“We truly owe our success to the loyalty of our customers and staff,” the owners said. “We thank you for all of your support over the years and look forward to seeing you soon.”
