Man Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Metal Parts from 2 Monroe Homes

The man was arrested after police received report of a suspicious person walking with two suitcases.

A man with an active arrest warrant who was seen walking on Walnut Street pulling two suitcases was arrested on March 9.

Monroe Police received the report of a suspicious person walking on Walnut Street at around 4 p.m. When officers arrived, police recognized the man due to his extensive arrest history and were aware than an arrest warrant was pending for the man at Bridgeport Superior Court.

Drew Russo, 28, of Monroe was taken into custody once officers confirmed that the arrest warrant application was signed.

According to police, the suitcases Russo was pulling contained pieces of cut copper piping, plumbing parts, two gaming stations, a large bolt cutter and a piece of mail addressed to a home on Old Tannery Road, approximately half a mile from where Russo was located.

Detectives went to the Old Tannery home and found that the house had been burglarized and copper pipes and plumbing had been cut from the home’s heating system.

Russo was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny, first-degree criminal mischief , second-degree criminal trespassing and possession of burglary tools.

He was arrested on the warrant charging him with the similar charges for a burglary which took place at a home located on Shelton Road in Monroe on Jan. 23.

On that date the Monroe Police Department received a report from a real estate agent that a large amount of water was flowing out of the garage. The home was vacant and upon inspection, the basement was found to have water flowing from pipes that had been cut out.

According to police, detectives collected physical evidence from the scene, which placed Russo there.

Detectives also determined that Russo had allegedly been pawning pieces of copper and other metal to local scrap metal dealers.
