Man Drove Under Influence of Heroin, Caused 3-Car Crash: Cops

The crash occurred on Route 34 in Monroe.

A West Haven man is facing charges after Monroe police say he was involved in a three-vehicle crash.

Police received a report of a head-on motor vehicle crash involving three vehicles on Route 34 west of the Monroe Boat Ramp on June 5 around 2:45 p.m.

Investigation revealed that 55-year-old Frank Visciglia was traveling east in his GMC pick-up truck and crossed over the center line on a curve, striking a Dodge Caravan traveling west, police said. The force of the crash forced the Caravan backwards into the front end of a Chevrolet Cavalier.

The occupants of all vehicles were transported to area hospitals for non-life threatening injuries. During the course of medical treatment, Visciglia said he had taken heroin before the crash, police said.

Police said they obtained a search and seizure warrant for Visciglia’s medical records and found that his blood test results were positive for having an opiate in his system.
