Monroe 13s Advances to Championship Game

Friday's win over Ridgefield set up today's showdown with Stamford.

The Monroe 13-year-old All Stars defeated Ridgefield 10-4 Friday to advance to the I-84 Championship game against Stamford played earlier today at Wolfe Park's Diamond No. 2.

Monroe defeated Stamford 6-4 in their only meeting of the season on July 18.

On Friday, Monroe jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by the red-hot Dougie Wisentaner.

In the fourth inning Monroe made it 3-0 on a two out RBI from Dylan Izzo.

In the top of the fifth Monroe lost the lead thanks to some defensive lapses and timely hitting by Ridgefield.

Adam Madison, who was pitching a no hitter at the start of the inning, left the game with two outs and Brian Keller came in to close out the inning.

Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, Monroe's bats came alive after lead off singles from Kyle Horton, Adam Madison and TJ Egan loaded the bases and Kyle Horton stole home to tie the game at 4.

Ridgefield's defenses let them down and Monroe continued to hit the ball hard and scored seven runs in the inning to leave the bottom of the fifth with a 10-4 lead.

That would prove all Monroe needed as their defense shored up making nice plays in the outfield and strong relief pitching from Brian Keller shut Ridgefield down for the final six outs.

Hot bats on the night were Kyle Horton going 2 for 3 with and RBI, Joe Prutting 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Doug Wisentaner 2 for 2 with two RBI's.

Adding hits and RBI's were Dylan Izzo and Scottie Wechter.

Adam Madison pitched four and two-thirds innings allowing only two hits and one earned run.

Brian Keller earned his second win in the playoffs, going two and a third innings with two strike outs and no hits.
