Monroe BOE Reduces Superintendent Budget Ask
Democrats on the board argued that lowering the amount would mean another deficit in the future.
MONROE, CT — The Monroe Board of Education reduced Superintendent Jack Zamary's budget increase request from 5.7 to 4.88 percent.
The budget would be roughly $60 million under the new proposal, according to the Monroe Sun.
Democrats on the board voted against the proposal and said in a statement that the larger initial increase was necessary to maintain the school system and properly budget so that a deficit didn't occur.

Zamary and interim finance director Frank Connolly were placed on administrative leave amid an investigation earlier this month.
There is an estimated $550,000 deficit in the current fiscal year's budget for the school system.
