Monroe Budget Heads to Referendum Once Again

About $118,000 has been cut in the new proposal.

The new proposed Monroe budget is $118,000 less than the one rejected by voters, the Connecticut Post reports.

First Selectman Steve Vavrek told the paper no programs would be cut. The new spending plan would cut $68,000 from the town budget and $50,000 from the Board of Education.

The next referendum will be held April 28, and if it is not approved a referendum must be held every two weeks till the budget is accepted.

According to the paper, the new budget , which stand at roughly $84.1 million is roughly 2.15 percent higher than the previous year’s budget. The mill rate will also rise significantly.
