Approximately 35 volunteer firefighters responded to the blaze, including five engines, a tanker, and a ladder truck from the Monroe departments and additional tankers from Oxford and Newtown, due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area. Shelton and Trumbull firefighters covered the Monroe fire stations while crews remained on the scene for nearly three hours. No firefighters were injured during the blaze.
A preliminary investigation indicates the cause appears to be accidental. An investigation by the Monroe Fire Marshal’s Office is underway.
