Monroe Crews Tackle Brush Fire In Webb Mountain Park

The response required a mix of spotters on foot​ and all-terrain vehicles.

MONROE, CT — Firefighters extinguished a brush fire in Webb Mountain Park Saturday night

Crews from Stevenson Volunteer Fire Company and Monroe Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call just after 9:30.

The caller reported seeing the fire from across the river in Oxford, and "it was a challenge to locate the fire," requiring a mix of spotters on foot and all-terrain vehicles, Stevenson fire officials posted on social media. The local crews enlisted aid from White Hills Fire Company in Shelton who were familiar with the terrain.

"We lucked out and were able to run a hose line down from the road in Webb Mountain from Brush 310 and we were able to use the water from both Tankers 315 and 316 to extinguish the fire and hot spots," Stevenson fire officials posted on social media.

Crews were able to safely extinguish the blaze and call it a night around 2 a.m.
