Monroe Dems Fire Back at Vavrek Statement

After leveling a plagiarism charge, the Democrats assess his administrative abilities.

Monroe Democrats have responded to Republican First Selectman Steve Vavrek’s request for feedback.

While the statement, which was endorsed by the entire Democratic Town Committee, said that they would agree to meet with Vavrek on a regular basis, that is pretty much where the niceties ended, according to the Monroe Courier.

Vavrek had published a 450-word statement to the town on social media recently.

He stated that all the town’s residents need to work together and try to void the gridlock happening in state and federal politics.

The criticism of the state from the Democrats began by accusing the recently re-elected First Selectman of plagiarism.

They said there were similarities between Vavrek’s letter and a letter to Trumbull residents written by First Selectman Tim Herbst. The two letters were posted side by side on the Democrats’ website, the Courier reported.

Vavrek’s job performance also was the subject of criticism by the Democrats, saying he failed as an administrator.
