Monroe Fire Department Responds to Dryer Fire on Freedman Lane
One of the occupants was able to contain the fire with a garden hose until the fire department's arrival.

MONROE, CT -- A smoke detector alerted a Freedman Lane family to a dryer fire that caused fire and smoke damage in the lower level of their single family home, the Monroe Fire Marshal has reported.
Firefighters were notified of a fire in the residence shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 30. One of the occupants was able to contain the fire with a garden hose until the fire department’s arrival, while the other occupant and two children got out of the house.
Firefighters confirmed there was no further extension, and ventilated smoke from the structure. Fire Marshal William B. Davin confirmed that the fire was contained to the laundry room, with smoke damage to the lower level family room.

Davin estimated the damage to $20,000 to $25,000. Davin stressed the importance of having working smoke detectors throughout your home, without a working smoke detector the fire damage would have been severe.
