Monroe Firefighter Seriously Injured In Residential Blaze

MONROE, CT — A Monroe firefighter was seriously injured while fighting a house fire on Old Zoar Road Saturday.

Fire officials say crews from Stevenson, Monroe, and Stepney fire companies responded to the call about 5 p.m. The home's occupants had already safely evacuated when the first responders arrived.

The crews were able to contain the blaze relatively quickly, but not before one firefighter sustained a traumatic injury, according to the report on social media.

He was immediately treated by Monroe EMS crews and a Rapid Intervention Team who were standing by at the scene. The injured firefighter was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

"Our firefighter is currently in stable condition, alert and in good spirits, and is recovering at the hospital," fire officials reported Sunday.

The cause remains under investigation by the Monroe Fire Marshal’s Office, but initially appears to be electrical in nature, officials said.
