Monroe Firefighters Fought 2 Fires Monday
It was a busy start to the new year for firefighters.

MONROE, CT —Firefighters got off to a busy start for the new year by battling two fires Monday. Crews responded to a chimney fire on Lorraine Drive in the morning.
The chimney fire was contained and the home was ventilated after flames were extinguished, according to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 Inc. Facebook page. About 18 firefighters responded to the scene.
Around 1:20 p.m. firefighters from Monroe Stepney and Stevenson fire departments responded to an Elm Street fire near Fan Hill Road. Visible smoke and flames were seen at the rear of the property. The fire was quickly extinguished.

Some of the fire extended into two nearby rooms. Crews stayed on the scene for about 90 minutes. No injuries were reported.
