Monroe Firefighters Issue Warning Over T-Shirt Scam

MONROE, CT — The Stevenson Volunteer Fire Company in Monroe is warning residents about a t-shirt scam that is circulating around the country.

According to a post on the company's Facebook page (see below), someone is sending fraudulent texts that fire departments are selling t-shirts.

The texts have a link, that firefighters warn people not to click.

"These messages will often look real and say it is for your local Fire Company," officials wrote. "Stevenson Volunteer Fire Company, Monroe Volunteer Fire Department, No.1 Inc. and Stepney Fire Department do not sell T-Shirts, and will never solicit money through text message."

If you receive such a text, don't click on the enclosed link, and if you think you may have been scammed, contact the Monroe Police Department.
