Monroe Firefighters Respond to Basement Fire

About 20 firefighters from the Monroe, Stepney, and Stevenson fire departments manning 3 engines and a ladder truck responded to the call.

Press release:

Monroe volunteer firefighters made quick work of a basement fire on Tuesday evening. Residents at 46 Countryside Drive called 911 around 6:15 pm reporting heavy smoke coming from the basement. First arriving firefighters confirmed an active fire in the basement but were able to quickly bring it under control, limiting the impact to mostly smoke damage. The residents safely evacuated and a police officer was able to remove a dog from the house upon his arrival.

About 20 firefighters from the Monroe, Stepney, and Stevenson fire departments manning 3 engines and a ladder truck responded to the call and remained on scene for about an hour.
The Monroe Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
The fire department reminds citizens that the winter months typically bring about a sharp increase in residential fires. Residents are strongly encouraged to ensure there are smoke alarms with working batteries installed throughout each floor of the house.
