MONROE HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Blizzard, Black Ice Warnings in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) has predicted a blizzard for Monday night into Tuesday. The NWS has issued two special weather statements for this week for Fairfield County due to the incoming Nor ‘Easter. Over six inches of snow is forecasted, along with strong winds, making for blizzard-like conditions.

A “Special Weather Statement” has been issued for black ice conditions that began Saturday evening and will continue through Sunday morning. Driving and walking conditions can be hazardous due to areas of black ice. Drivers are urged to use caution.

A “Hazardous Weather Outlook“ has also been issued due to a blizzard expected Monday night through Tuesday. Well over six inches of snow accumulation is forecasted, as well as strong winds, causing blizzard-like conditions.

Below is a detailed forecast from the NWS:

• Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 32. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. West wind 6 to 13 mph.
• Sunday Night - Increasing clouds, with a low around 11. North wind around 6 mph.
• Monday - A chance of snow, mainly after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 24. Wind chill values between zero and 10. Northeast wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Monday Night - Snow likely, mainly after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 18. North wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. *POSSIBLE BLIZZARD - UP TO 6” of SNOW ACCUMULATION*
• Tuesday - Snow likely, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 23. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. *POSSIBLE BLIZZARD - UP TO 6” of SNOW ACCUMULATION*
• Tuesday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 9.
• Wednesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 25.
• Wednesday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 11.
• Thursday - Partly sunny, with a high near 31.
• Thursday Night - A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Friday - Partly sunny, with a high near 32.
• Friday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 10.
• Saturday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 26.
