Monroe Man Accused of Grabbing Woman by the Throat
Monroe police say the man is accused of verbally threatening to kill the woman if she called 911.

On Nov. 1 the Monroe Police Department received a 911 call from a female at the Route 111 address, reporting that her boyfriend had assaulted and choker her, police said.
Responding officer found the female caller/victim outside in the driveway crying, police said. Their investigation revealed that the victim and the accused John Scianna, 53, of 1193 Route 111, had been arguing when Scianna allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat and lifted her off the ground, police said.
The victim reported that he allegedly threatened to killer her if she called 911, police said.

Officers observed injuries on the victim that her consistent with her version of events, police said. Scianna was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, threatening and strangulation, and transported to the Monroe Police Department for booking.
The victim was evaluated by Monroe EMS personnel for her injuries. He was initially held on a $75,000 bond.
