Monroe Man Charged with Assault After Barricading Police

MONROE —Police arrested a Monroe man who allegedly assaulted a famly member early Saturday morning.

Police answered a call at 1:20 a.m. Saturday at Field Rock Road from a resident who reported being punched and choked after telling a family member that they had been in an accident in New Milford, according to a release.

When police arrived on the scene, Gary Boros, 63, ran into the house and locked the door. Police say Boros refused to open the door, come outside or answer calls to the home.

At 1:47 another family member arrived home and got Boros on the phone. Boros still refused to open any doors, and began turning off all the lights in the house. Boros' wife came out of the house, and Boros proceeded to barricade himself inside.

Eventually Boros emerged, and engaged in a struggle with police. He was taken into custody at 3:28 a.m. One officer was taken to St. Vincent's for evaluation of injuries.

Boros was charged with third degree assault, second degree strangulation, disroderly conduct and interfering with police. He was held on a $100,000 bond is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Monday.
