Monroe Man Charged with DUI

The man also admitted to taking narcotics prescribed to him by a physician.

A Monroe man driving in an erratic manner was arrested and charged with a DUI over the weekend.

According to police, a Redding police officer was following a green Volvo being operated in an erratic manner traveling north on Elm Street on April 25 around 5:37 p.m.

After Monroe Police were informed of the driver, an officer intercepted the Volvo on Elm Street and after witnessing erratic driving stopped the car.

The operator, Juan Santiago, 52 seemed confused and spoke with slurred and mumbled speech, police said. He failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane.

During booking, Santiago admitted to taking narcotics prescribed to him by a physician, police said.

He was given a $500 bond and a court date of May 5.
