Monroe PD Warns Of Virtual Kidnapping Scheme
Tip from police: Hang up on these bogus calls and call your loved one.

MONROE, CT — Police have received several reports relating to a type of virtual extortion scam.
The commonality is that the scam tricks victims into paying a ransom to free a loved one they believe is being threatened with violence and death, police said on Facebook.
Police advise people to hang up and contact the loved one to verify their safety.

"Do not allow the caller to create panic and do not send money to someone you do not know," police said.
