Monroe Police Warn Of Unemployment Benefit Scams
Claimants have been having problems receiving unemployment benefits. Here's why.
MONROE, CT — The police are warning residents of an uptick in fraudulent employment scams.
Claimants have been including their personal identifying information in an email or posting on social media that they are a Connecticut resident having problems receiving unemployment benefits. That's all the information or invitation a scammer needs to hijack their identities, according to state Department of Labor Commissioner Danté Bartolomeo.
"If you receive notification pertaining to unemployment benefits that you did not apply for, file a police report and contact the Connecticut Department of Labor immediately to file a claim," Monroe police officials posted to social media.
