Monroe Residents Learn of New Zoning Regs
Arborists and pet groomers are among the new categorizations of businesses.

MONROE, CT --- Around 200 residents packed into Masuk High School's auditorium Wednesday night to learn -- and teach -- about the proposed changes to the town's zoning regulations. This was the first large-scale attempt by the Planning & Zoning Commission to update their rules in five years.
A new district-by-district chart now codifies what types of businesses can operate in what parts of town. With that, comes some new business categorizations for commercial enterprises not properly accounted in the old zoning laws. Some of these new categories include:
- Accessory drive-through services
- Community-wide events
- Pet groomers
- Contractors and building trades
- Health clubs
- Instructional retailers
- Landscapers/arborists
The Commission has streesed that the new regulations are still "a work in progress," a reason why they are soliciting input from residents.
