Monroe Residents To Sound Off On Affordable Housing Plan

MONROE, CT — Monroe residents will have an opportunity to weigh in on the final draft of the town's Affordable Housing Plan during a hearing at Town Hall on Thursday.

A 2017 Connecticut law requires municipalities to draft a plan every five years that lays out how the town intends to "increase the number of affordable housing developments in the municipality."

Affordable housing is generally defined as housing that is available to households making less than the area median income and costing less than 30 percent of a household's annual income, according to Monroe's own plan.

The town's plan was crafted by the Monroe Planning and Zoning Commission, who wrote in its introduction they viewed its development as "an opportunity to look more closely at the current housing situation in Monroe as well as the needs of our current and future residents."

The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
