Monroe Residents Sound Off on Safety Issues
We asked Patch Readers to share their biggest safety concerns in Monroe. Here's what they'd change.

Monroe, CT- Summer’s nearly here and with each walk in the park, day at the pool and backyard BBQ comes the risk of snakebites, drowning and fires, but don’t worry! There’s no reason to stay cooped up inside all season.
Patch put together a list of summer safety tips to keep you safe and having fun while the weather’s warm. Make sure to give snakes their distance and always swim with a buddy to stay carefree during the dog days.
Keeping these tips in mind, there are other possible dangers that affect Monroe residents year round.

We asked Patch Readers what they thought the biggest safety issues were in their town. Here’s a list of the most pressing problems, from break-ins to traffic jams:
- "Homes with no access to a fire hydrant."
- "How about the roads and the pot holes the size of the Grand Canyon!!?"
- "People doing 60 in a 30 mph zone."
- "Running with scissors. Or sidewalks. I'm not sure."
- "Sidewalks especially Route 25 always see people walking to work and its not safe. The bus only goes to Rite Aid then they have to walk up a very busy road with lots of trucks an d speeding commuters. WE NEED sidewalks. "
- "The selectman that's in office!"
- "Drugs! It's a real problem people!"
- "No signal lights at Rte. 110 and Wheeler Road."
- "The abysmal condition of the road on the big hill on Barn Hill Rd. Enough with the bad patch-up jobs! Pave it already!!"
