Monroe Schools Warn Against Scam
The same scam was perpetrated last year as well, the schools advised.
MONROE, CT — The Public Schools are warning residents of a "fundraising" scam involving a local high school.
In a social media post, Monroe Public Schools advised that a scam artist claiming to be working with the Masuk cheerleaders and football team is soliciting local businesses.
Correspondence from the scammers requests money from the businesses in exchange for having their names placed on signs to be displayed at football games and on t-shirts to be given to the Masuk community. Additionally, the correspondence, which references the names of the coaches, claims the public address announcer would announce the local businesses during home contests.

"Please know that they are not affiliated with Masuk High School or the Monroe Public Schools. We would never send a solicitor directly to an area business without contact the business first. We are very happy with the support of our community and want to get this information out to all of our local businesses to prevent this company from trying to scam anyone," a spokesperson for the schools wrote.
