Near Monroe: Griffin Hospital to Host Ebola Virus Forum Nov. 20

DERBY, CT (Nov. 6, 2014) – To help the community understand the Ebola virus outbreak, Griffin Hospital will host a free community forum on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in the hospital’s Meditation and Learning Center, 130 Division Street, Derby.

Hosted by Griffin Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Frederick Browne and the hospital’s Infectious Diseases Chief Dr. Howard L. Quentzel, this free program will explain the disease, including how it can be transmitted and its symptoms, as well as how Griffin Hospital is prepared to care for individuals who may contract the virus.

The 2014 Ebola epidemic is the largest in history, affecting multiple countries in West Africa. Two imported cases, including one death, and two locally acquired cases in healthcare workers have been reported in the United States to date. The Centers for Disease Control and healthcare facilities across the country have been taking precautions to prevent further spread of Ebola in the United States.
