Obituary: Josephine Emily 'Emma' Szanicz, 60, of Monroe

MONROE, CT -- Josephine Emily "Emma" Szanicz, age 60 of Monroe, passed away after her long courageous battle with ovarian cancer on June 21 in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Emma, born on October 27, 1957, is survived by her parents, Joseph and Bridget Murtha of Farifield, devoted husband of 39 years, Stephen Szanicz of Monroe, her two daughters, Jennifer (Szanicz) Schreier and husband Wendell Schreier of Easton, Katelyn (Szanicz) Husvar and husband Brandon Husvar of Dublin, CA, her four brothers, Joseph Murtha Jr. and his wife Carole Murtha of Monroe, Michael Murtha and his wife Denise Murtha of Lisbon Falls, ME, Brian Murtha and his wife Kristen Murtha of Monroe, and Kevin Murtha and his wife Cherelle Murtha of Stratford, three grandchildren, Bentley Schreier and Brody Schreier of Easton and Madison Husvar, due to arrive in September, of Dublin, CA. Emma is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well many aunts uncles and cousins.

With over 20 years in the dental field, Emma had a true passion for helping others and has truly touched the lives by all who met and knew her. She loved nothing more than spending time with her beloved family, especially her two grandsons. She was the brightest light in everyone's lives and will be sorely missed by all.

A mass will be held for those who wish to attend on Saturday, June 30 at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield, CT 06825
